boulder at 11:00. This is one of the roughest rock scrambles in the desert. But picking our way around dry waterfalls and sheer ledges and boulders of all sizes and shapes up to the proportions of garages, proved to be very interesting. The weather was crisp and sunny, ideal for climbing. A few tiny snow patches lingered in shady nooks. Nineteen hikers made the 4,500 foot summit and enjoyed the usual leisurely lunch and siesta. The return was made by a slightly different route. Everyone agreed that here was another good peak to add to the qualifying list.

MAKALU LECTURE

We hope by this time you have your tickets for the lecture by Will Siri leader of the California Himayalan Expedition to Mt. Makalu, at Patriotic Hall, 1816 S. Figueroa in Los Angeles. The date is Thursday, March 3, at 8:30 P.M. And you better be there early if you want a good seat. The color film of the expedition "Ten Men Against Makalu", will be a feature of the program. This event is sponsored by the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club. Tickets, at $1.25 for adults and .60 cents for children under 12 will be on sale at Friday night dinners at Boos Bros and at the door March 3.

DPS NOTES
Walt Heninger has prepared and mimeographed "A Check List for Newcomers going on a Week-end Trip". This is a very useful list of suggestions and equipment for new members. Copies will be presented. with the compliments of the Desert Peaks Section.

We hope you all saw the full-page spread on the Desert Peaks Section in the Los Angeles Times for Sunday, February 20th. A very fine article by Dan Thrapp, with lots of pictures of us desert rats in our native habitat.

Wally Tinsley is now wearing a new DPS emblem pin. If you have climbed nine peaks on the official qualifying list, including Montgomery Peak, New York Butte, Rabbit Peak and Telescope Peak you are entitled to wear the pin. Pins may be secured from Secretary-Treasurer Marion Dean. The price is $2.00.
