We shall all miss her very much; her exuberance, energy and enthusiasm, her efficiency, and her wonderful cooking. It is comforting to know that she died doing what she liked to do best.

DPS goes on American Online

The DPS is now listed in the Electronic Trails section of Backpacking Magazine on American Online. The listing includes information on how to become a member while including a brief history about the climbing section. At this time, the only other desert group to be listed in the AOL Electronic Trail area is The Desert Survivors.

Phil Bruce Writes from Hawaii

I was once a member of the DPS. I had a lot of fun climbing many of the DPS peaks, even though I didn't finish the list.

I met Harry Brumer while climbing a peak, and we climbed many peaks together. Harry is still a member of the DPS and sends me his copy of the SAGE when he is finished with it. I greatly enjoy this newsletter.

I now live on the Waikoloa Desert at 900' on the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii. There are many good peaks nearby, ranging from 2,300 to 13,750 ft. Camping is good and I would welcome any DPS'ers who might come my way. You can roll out your bed on my lanai any time and I also have a small camp trailer where you can sleep. I can show you parts of the island that most tourists never see. Winter is the best time of year to visit because of the heat.

I still enjoy looking at the pictures I took when I was hiking in LA. I made some wonderful friends on those trips and am still in contact with many of them.

I wish you all lots of good times; I LOVED EVERY MILE OF IT.

Yours truly,
Phil Bruce. "ALOHA"
