The DPS season is well under way
again. "Where are you going over Thanksgiving?" "What's the road like into
Porter?" "Is there snow on Waucoba?" We're all making plans and looking forward
to another wonderful year of climbing.
n the conservation front the
Desert Bill has finally passed. I still haven't figured out what all the
implications for the section are, but I think anything that preserves and
protects the fragile desert ecology can't be bad.
This has been a great
year for list finishes. Since the banquet we have already had six list
finishers. June saw two with William G. Stevens on Waucoba and then Tina Stough
who became the third woman triple list finisher on Humphreys. In July' Tom
Moumblow finished on Ruby Dome and Bob Wyka finished on Wheeler. September saw
Sue Wyman and Vie Henney both finish the list for the second time on Glass and
the same weekend they became triple list finishers with their joint SPS finish
on Morrison. Greg and Mirna Roach should finish on Spirit this November and
Erik Siering is scheduled to finish in December on Little Picacho. Suzanne and
Igor Mamedalin are also scheduled to finish in December on McCullough and
Mountain Gods willing I may finish on East Ord in February on the Old Timers
trip. Terry Flood from San Diego will finish on Orocopia in January and Wynne
Benti-Zdon is shooting for April and there are rumors that George Toby and Ron
Young will finish this spring on Waucoba. Whew! |
The Old timers weekend will be on
February 25th and 26th and besides East Ord on Sunday we'll climb Granite #1 on
the Saturday. Immediate Past Chair Patty Kline will lead and I will assist
