VEGAS MEAL TIPS WHEN ENROUTE
TO/FROM MOAPA, CHARLESTON, ZION etc
RON JONES

Leora and I have several tines surveyed the fast and easy buffet meal possibilities when traveling through Las Vegas. A recent Travel section of the Los Angeles Tines has made a thorough survey and in this article I have combined our opinions to give you a rating of dinner buffets in early 1994. I can't imagine a DPSer being in Las Vegas for lunch but I have included a few breakfast possibilities for early morning big-eaters. All these buffets have easy access from the I-15 freeway and I have noted their closest freeway off-rasp. Please send me any corrections or additions to this list for a future up date.
The buffet at Rio's Carnival World nay be the best-value buffet in Vegas with the best selection of interesting dishes. They have their own bakery and separate serving stations for Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Mongolian stir-fried and American. The stir-fry is especially good with fresh vegetables, sea food and meats. The dinner buffet is priced at $7.25 and, like all the buffets noted here, includes all-the-food-a-DPSer-can eat. Rio's is located just west of I-15, on the north side of the Flamingo Rd exit.
Another great value with what the Tines calls "the innovative working man's buffet", is located at the Palace Station. Dinner here is $7.95 The Palace grills many entrees to order right in the dining room before your eyes, ensuring freshness and eliminating the dreaded steam-table cuisine. Take the Sahara Ave turnoff east one block from I-15.
Perhaps my favorite buffet is located at the Mirage Hotel ($ 10.25), west side of Las Vegas Blvd (THE STRIP) just north of the Flamingo Rd off ramp. They have an excellent selection of salads, and unlimited amounts of fresh shrimp. And the ambiance here is a bit more conservative than some.

If you are into king crab legs and crab cocktails try the Las Vegas Hilton's buffet of champions ($ 11.95). Take the Sahara Ave turnoff east to The Strip. $ 11.95 may be getting a bit lavish or pricey for the average DPSer, so just across the Strip (street) right at Sahara Ave is the Circus Circus with the least expensive of the Las Vegas dinner buffets ($ 3,99). The menu is only so-so and there are hoards of family types and children but Circus Circus has always promoted quantity and affordability over quality.
Some better than average inexpensive dinner buffets can be found at the Frontier ($ 5.95), west side of The Strip, east of I-15 between Flamingo Rd and Sahara Aye; and the Gold Coast ($5.45), located west of I-15 at the Flamingo Rd exit.
For a better-than-average all-you-can-eat breakfast, try the before mentioned Palace Station ($ 3.95) and Rio's Carnival World ($ 3.25). For a memorable and inexpensive Sunday Brunch try the Desert Inn ($ 10.95), across the Strip from the Frontier mentioned above or the Golden Nugget ($ 9.95), located in the old center of Las Vegas on Main Street (east from I-15 on Charleston Blvd.

BON APPETIT and HAPPY TRAILS !
