removed, and a new attractive black, tubular steel, all-welded fence has been erected. This will prevent visitor injury from the speeding trains. It is my thought that the thousands of exhumed bricks(nowhere in sight) might be relocated within the fence boundary.
For those of you not acquainted with the Kelso Depot, it was through the efforts of concerned citizenry, including the labors of a number of DPSers, that the famed building was spared. In November 1992, with due public ceremony, the to-be-bulldozed rail structure was transferred to the BLM.

For persons not familiar with the Mojave Desert settlement of Kelso and its classic edifice, this very small community is a busy passing point on the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad between Las Vegas and Barstow. It reposes 37 miles southeast of Baker, CA.
A good time to access Kelso is when doing either Old Dad Mtn or Granite Mtn #1 on a Desert Peaks weekend.
Oh, yes, the highway is now fully paved from Kelso south to Interstate 40.
