PORTABLE FIRE RING

The answer to having a campfire where you want it and leaving hardly a trace. A simple design that works perfectly, and the necessary parts are inexpensive to purchase. The tested fire ring is 30 inches in diameter and 9 inches high. It consists of two pieces of 22 gauge galvanized sheet metal 9" x 48" in dimension. The ends are crimped so that the sheets can be interlocked together, thus forming a ring. However, a fire ring formed by one 9" x 120" sheet would be even more simple to fabricate and of larger diameter. There would be a pair of matching holes at both ends, so that a ring could be formed by simply bolting the ends together. The test ring can be stored flat; but a one piece ring can be coiled into a compact 12" diameter. Although I have been able to been able to collect the residue from campfires (with some sand and gravel intermixed, in a small container, two bottom liner sheets 20" x 36" in dimension, would simplify cleanup. I have priced the materials necessary to build a fire ring. The shearing cost would vary considerably depending on the quantity ordered. If there is enough interest amongst DPS members, I will have the parts fabricated and sell the rings at cost; which should be around $7.00 each. The bottom liner would cost around $4.00 additional. Those interested can write (send a SASE) or telephone me. If I hear from enough Section members who would like to own one, by / /93, I will order the materials, have sheared to size, and drill the necessary holes myself. (For food preparation purposes, a pair of vertical bars that extend around 18 inches above the ring, could be bolted to it across from each other and bridged with a rod or pipe. It would also be simple to build a griddle or grate with two supports that bridge the top of ring. For a larger campfire, two rings could be bolted together to form a super ring. ) Ed Lubin, 10941 Strathmore Dr #56, L.A. 99024 or call me at 310-208-5886. - EDEd Lubin
