PALM CANYON: NOVEMBER 21 We will work on Agua Caliente tribal land in a remote part of Palm Canyon, south of Palm Springs. Entry will be via a 12-mile private road overlooking Coachella Valley. This project is sponsored by the Sierra Club's Backroad Explorers, with Bob Jaussaud as assistant leader. Our meeting place on Saturday morning is Pinyon Flat Campground, located just north of Highway 74 about 14 miles south of Palm Desert. The turnoff is a short distance beyond the Sugar Loaf Cafe. The Forest Service has waived camping fees for those staying overnight on Friday or Saturday. The organized event will end upon our return to the campground late Saturday afternoon. Plan to arrive on Friday night or by 8:30 Saturday morning so that we can leave by 9:00. The road is in good condition but sandy in places, so those with 2WD vehicles should plan to car-pool to the work area Please phone for more information. |
