Dear Ron,

Here are some comments on the possible peak additions. I think that the idea of a one year waiting period to allow members to climb the candidates is a good one. I have done all seven peaks and would vote for all of them. I see no good reason for having a set number of peaks as Maris suggested. The other lists have odd numbers of peaks and a considerably greater number of them as well. The round trip distances and gains are relative to the roadheads that I used. These are not necessarily the best.

Mt Moriah (12067; 6 mi; 2400 ft) - Pros: Fifth highest peak in Nevada in the middle of a large roadless area; good views; great bristlecone pine forests; interesting geologic feature (the Table); goes well with Wheeler. Cons: Long drive; easy mountain.
Comments: Can be done by a number of different trails all of which traverse delightful country. I have done three other 11000 footers in the immediate area.

Mormon Peak (7414; 7 mi; 3400 ft) - Pros: High point of a scenic limestone fault block range; chance to see bighorns; goes well with Moapa; moderate difficulty. Cons: Lousy road. Comments: I saw a small herd of bighorn on the summit ridge. We actually got a Porsche 912 to the roadhead.

Saline Mtn (7063; 7 mi; 3800 ft) - Pros: Nice views of the Inyos and the Panamints; goes well with Dry; proximity to hot springs; moderate difficulty. Cons: Another lousy road; peak is really a large crud heap. Comments: We did get two wheel drive vehicles to the roadhead. It is probably the worst overall of these seven peaks, but still as good as some already on the list.

Providence Pt (6612; 5 mi; 3000 ft) - Pros: Pretty little pinyon covered peak with nice granite outcroppings; several routes are available; goes well with Granite #1; good views north and west; short drive. Cons: Fairly easy climb. Comments: I have done this one twice, once from the east and once along the north ridge which is no picnic.

Sugarloaf Peak (4820; 13 mi; 3000 ft) - Pros: Approach is through colorful volcanic landscape; challenging dayhike; scenic summit block area; goes well with Needle. Cons: Long and poor dirt road approach for best roadhead; death march from others; does not dominate its area. Comments: I was fully prepared to hate this mountain as just another Death Valley crud heap (see Canyon Point), but the approach was enjoyable and the final summit region was nice. The roadhead I used is an extension of the road past Willow Spring down into Anvil Spring Canyon.

Mohave Peak (2771; 14 mi; 3000 ft) - Pros: The roadhead is in a beautiful section of Sonoran Desert; makes a fine weekend with Needle Eye; high point of the area; first part of the hike is in a pretty canyon. Cons: A long walk across the flats between the first canyon and the peak.
