  • This year, the DPS Management Committee has been working on updating the Section Bylaws. A list of suggested changes was compiled and printed in the January 1992 SAGE (#217). Many of these changes were editorial (e.g. Typos, punctuation, grammar cleanup, etc.). At the February 4 general meeting, a motion was made, seconded and passed by the general membership to give the management committee authority to make the editorial type changes to the Bylaws without putting them all up to a general vote. The remaining proposed changes are included on the ballot in this issue. We also decided to publish the complete Bylaws instead of just the affected paragraphs, as most members probably don't have an opportunity to see them.
  • Also at the last Management Committee meeting, the DPS Mountaineering Committee submitted a list of 7 new peaks that they suggested for possible addition to the Peak List. This generated lots of discussion about how more time is needed by everyone to really check new peaks Out before voting on them. The Committee recommended maintaining a list of possible peak additions during the DPS business year so that there will be more awareness among the general membership and more time to plan exploratory trips. The Mountaineering Committee will prepare the first "Recommended Additions List" for the March meeting. This is stimulated the drafting of change #5 to the Bylaws (see the ballot).
  • Current membership is 238 members in good standing (52 members who still haven't renewed for 92!)

TREA$URER'$ REPORT

For the period of 1/1/92 to 2/19/92 the DPS had income of $1985.71 and expenses of $1137.36, for an ending bank balance of $3005.77. Our major sources of income were SAGE renewals and sales of the NEW, updated Road and Peaks Guide (3rd Edition).

Don't forget to order your emblem and list finisher pins and DPS patches. We also have sweat shirts in pink and turquoise--just the thing to wear around the campfire after an invigorating desert hike. Order using the DPS Merchandise Order Form.
