| RESTAURANT REVIEW Silver Dollar Saloon Red Mountain (on 395) |
After finding the ONLY restaurant in Trona closed, we headed toward Randsburg on Maris' recommendation. Nothing was open at Randsburg.. We were desperate. A local gentleman sensing our ravenous hunger steered us to the Silver Dollar Saloon at Red Mountain. Not expecting much and checking our stock of Alka Seltzer we stalked through Red Mountain and into the Silver Dollar Saloon. We were pleasantly surprised not many tourist faces but plenty of local clientele enjoying their repast with gusto. The menu was simple with daily specials served from 5 to 7 PM for $4.50. The Sunday special was pork roast served with salad, bread, potato and vegetable -- except for the vegetarian in our midst, Tanya, we all chose this item. The service was cheerful, the salad was fresh and generous, the baked potato that came with roast could easily displace three Sizzler potatoes, and the slice of pork roast covered most of the plate. Bottom line: the meal was delicious and generous, the service was cheerful, the atmosphere was friendly, and the price on the special cannot be beat (non-specials looked reasonable, also). This places the Silver Dollar, under current management, into the list of the top 3 restaurants along 395 (the other two being the Sierra in Inyokern and Smokesignals in Lone Pine). |
