The Desert Sage
DEC/JAN 1991 211
From the Chair
Welcome one and all to 1991! I hope that 1991 will be a year of good health and cheer that will find you all on top of many of your favorite DPS peaks.
I know that many of you have made your New Year's resolutions and I would bet that on the top of a great percentage of those lists is a resolution that reads something like "I will get in shape and climb many more peaks this year!!! It sure is on the top of mine.
I would like to say a word or two to show our appreciation to our DPS Leaders.. When looking through the Schedule we may look at the peaks being led first - but the very next thing we look at is just who is leading the trip?
As participants we all look for different types of trips and leaders. Some people depend of those leaders who lead "the death marches" and they need and want the leader to really stress them out. We certainly have our share of leaders who can guarantee a good workout and a climb that once completed is something to be proud of.
Then there are those leaders who offer a tough, but fairly attainable paced peak climb. We get a great workout - and have time for socializing on the way.
Some leaders are known for always having a great campfire and party on Saturday night. We have all laughed, had great times, told tall tales, drank too m uch around many a camp fire.
There are even those leaders who would have you take the great desert rat test!
