DPS PEAKS GUIDE (3RD EDITION) UPDATE

The DPS Peaks Guide, 3rd Edition is currently 60% complete and is estimated for publication in March 1990. Some of the highlights of the 3rd Edition will be 1) Full page map (the new 7.5 mm. series maps wherever possible) for each peak including UTM grid system, scale bar (miles, kilometers and feet) and mag. declination, 2) Updated drive approach directions giving more detail (UTM's, landmarks, signs), 3) Updated climbing instructions giving more detail such as field bearings, UTM coordinates and major landmarks, 4) New route descriptions for a number of peaks. I am re-checking the routes and approaches, 5) a "Sidelines" section for most every peak listing in detail interesting sidetrips (petroglyphs, springs, cabins, caves, etc.) in that locale, history of the area, etc. and 6) an Introduction section giving valuable information on road classifications, climbing safety, maps, desert survival tips, flora, fauna and much more.

I would like to receive corrections, tips and additions to the old guides as well as any suggestions and new routes you think appropriate. Please send all material to me at my address in the Schedule. -- Dave Jurasevich
