RECAP OF 1989 CLIMBING SEASON
by Ron Jones

Last year I tried to collect the sign-in sheets from our DPS trips. For a first effort I think that our Outings Chair at the time, Terry Turner, and I did pretty well with 26 of 35 trips accounted for. The following statistics are based on the sign-in sheets which cooperating leaders turned in. The records have been turned over to Bill T Russell, our Section archivist.

We had 323 people show up on 25 trips (One was canceled). This is an average of 12.4 participants per outing. We had 78 guests (non-DPSers) on the 20 trips which kept track, for an average of 3.9. Only 3 trips which reported, failed to have any guests. Leora and I on our Mecca Hills Hike had 17 guests, Jones & Michael had 11 guests on The Last Argus Pk Hike, Jones & Brecheen had 9 on the Nelson Range Exploratory. Beside the one trip that was canceled, our smallest turnouts were 3 for Virgin/Mccullough and 4 each for Cabeza Prieta exploratory and Pyramid /Eagle. Our largest trips turnouts were for Jones & Michael on The Last Argus Pk Hike with 41 hikers, Jones & Brecheen 30 on Stepladder (following Wymann's unscheduled list finisher the previous day with many more people), Jones & Brecheen 25 on the Nelson Exploratory and 20 on both Van Dalsem & Leonard's Charleston & Mummy trip and Leora's & my Mecca Hills hike.
