the upcoming trips that Patty has planned for us for this year and they are very interesting as well, as informative. I think that her choice of trips as well as her bubly personality will help lure more people into our meetings.
Maris Valkass is one of my favorite verbal sparing partners. He speaks so cleverly and has an opinion about everything. That is why I knew that he was the man to serve as our Conservation Chair. I knew we needed someone who wasn't afraid to go in and speak out for the outings point of view. Thanks Maris!
I was delighted when Barbara Reber wrote me and volunteered to be Council Representative. Barbara's mega-mountaineering interests as well as her experience serving on the Angeles Chapter EX COMM certainly makes her a valued addition for that group. Go get them Barbara.
Bill T. Russell our Archivist and Mountain Records expert has spent many hours in the past keeping track of peaks and people. Bill's claim to fame however has got to be his love affair with "Big Iron". (I wonder if his wife knows?) Having climbed this peak several times myself I wonder if this is really the type of person we want keeping our records? All joking aside the members of the DPS really appreciate the interest that Bill has shown over the years in keeping the record straight and we feel fortunate that he wants to continue to do so.
What can I say about Ron Jones, our new "Sage" Editor? Who doesn't know this leader of DPS, HPS, SPS and every other kind of trip imaginable. We are anxious to see how Ron, who has entertained, us in the mountains, will go about entertaining us on paper for the next year (hopefully more). (Now since I've introduced him last he's probably going to put "From the Chair" on the last page.)
I would like to thank all of the above people for giving of their time this year and together I am sure that we will pleasantly pass the time.
Well I think that about covers it. I can't believe that I am on this side of the article and it didn't even hurt too much. I will try in the future to keep you informed on the many issues that come up and if you have any ideas at all of things that you'd like to know about that I could use in my column please don't hesitate to let me know.
