Remembering A Loved One

Images frozen
Like the paintings on a wall
Rememberances chosen
In a time dear to all

"Remember when"
He used to say

Yes, I "remember when"

Now he's gone away.

I feel empty to think he's left us
And it causes me to weep
But he hasn't left us!

Because memories never sleep.

On our return to the cars we were met by John & Wendy McCully who climbed Canyon Peak that day and Dale Van Dalsem with two friends who climbed Manly and Needle as a one-day trip. (Dale led Tucki on Sunday from Emigrant Ranger Station and turned back as the day was not long enough.)

The celebration party had many fine goodies and I brought a 7 pound desert deer roast which I had cooked at home. A good campfire was participated in by most.

Betty McCosker and Anna Valkass designed a beautiful t-shirt commemorating the memorable occasion.

Bob Michael successfully led Maturango Pk the next day. (See accompanying article).

Participants included: Leora Jones, Ron Grau, Evelyn Chadwell, Bob Emerick, Martha Flores, Paul Freiman, Doug Hatfield, Allen Holden, Jim Kilberg, Karen Leonard, Gerry Newton, Elaine O'Connell, Bill Oliver, Larry Tidball, Carol Brady, Carolyn Palmer, Valia Ringeler, Dennis Baker, Diane Rosentreter, Ursula and Don Slager, Bob Sumner, Bob Tomlinson, Dave Welbourne, Ron Webber, Minor White, Bill Tryon, John & Betsy Lutz, Bill Gray and Keats Hayden, Annick Wolf, and others. Thanks to all!... Ron

SHEEPHOLE MTNS. May 19 Gray/Kayden-Gray

It was a patient and good-natured group who waited a half-hour for the late and sheepish leaders to arrive at the roadhead, having greatly underestimated the three-hour drive time. George Pfeiffer, thinking he would be slow and need more time, had started up the route some 15 minutes earlier. We started out about 9:45 am after sign-ins and collection of the newly required "Release and Waiver Agreement" forms. It was an ideal desert hike morning - overcast, near 70F, and a light breeze.
