Since then, the town and mines of
Tumco (named after the Trumble United Mines Company) have remained dormant due
to the halt in gold production for the war effort, and withdrawal of the area
from new mining operations for proposed water developments. For 41 years, the
mines lay in disrepair, with flooded shafts and rotting timbers, but the
current prices of gold have sparked renewed interest in these
mines.
