1. Receive fees, membership numbers, and executed releases from registering climbers.
  2. Validate the currency of membership.
  3. Deposit fees in the appropriate account.
  4. File the releases for future reference.
  5. Update the database of registered climbers.
  6. Send current registration cards to climbers.
  7. Receive trip and accident reports from mountaineering section chairs.
  8. Obtain required permits from agencies.
  9. Prepare the actual text of policies and standards for review by the Mountaineering Committee.
  10. Process the documents required for chapter and individual certification.
  11. Assist with the facilitation process.
4.1.3 Organization chart

4.2 Responsibilities

4.2.1 Individual Climbers

Climbers will be required to register as follows before being allowed to climb with the Sierra Club:
  1. To participate in, but not lead or instruct for, climbing outings or training, one will have to register with the Mountaineering Committee, which means (a) paying a yearly user fee. For those in training this would be part of the cost of the course; (b) being a member of the Sierra Club; (c) signing the approved release of liability and sending it in.
  2. To lead or instruct for climbing outings or training, a member will have to register as a leader with the Mountaineering Committee, which means (a) meeting the requirements listed in (1) above; (b) becoming and staying certified to Mountaineering Committee standards as a registered climber.
4.2.2 Leaders

Individual leaders will have only to verify the participants are registered. Leaders will have complete discretion over who participates on an outing, except that all members must be properly registered.

4.2.3 Chapters

The outings chairperson of each mountaineering group, section, or committee will be responsible for reporting quarterly to the Mountaineering Administration the number and type of scheduled mountaineering trips that unit has conducted.
