Committee. In the letters, it is important to say how you feel about the areas, to describe what you observed of the natural resources, and of any destruction. Say that you would like the Senator/Congressman to support the area being included in the Act.

Asterisks indicate areas to which trips will be lead this fall/winter. Leaders are encouraged to plan more trips into areas proposed for protection under the bill, to increase all of our familiarity with these areas. If you feel you need expert advice on ecosystems and habitats, the Conservation Committee will help you find a resource.

Big Maria Mountains - Some mining in area. North side ORV impact needs to be photographed.
*Chemehuevi Peak - Ideal site to reintroduce the antelope, especially in wash areas.

*Stepladder Mountains - Crucial desert tortoise habitat. Need documentation of ORV impact.

Turtle Mountain - (Mopah Point) - Bighorn sheep may be threatened. Need documentation of ORV impacts.

*Avawatz Peak - Threatened by proposed Fort Irwin expansion.

*Whipple Mountains - Need pictures of "high country". Bighorn Sheep habitat. Most complex geology of any mountain in Southern California Desert. Lots of animal and plant varieties. Only mountain in Southern California with groves of saguaro cactus.

Kingston Peak - Broad and important ecosystem.
