The Desert Sage
For this issue of the 'Sage' we will make our "State of Section" report;
Happily most of the report is good, membership is up (don't forget to renew your 'Sage' subscription), the number of people coming to meeting was up, before our forced move to Tuesdays. And the folks on outings are enjoying the desert and the companionship of the DPS.
Work is moving along well on the "Road & Peak Guide". Due to the numbers of Peaks on the list (96) we will not have the space to print them all in the 'Sage,' However all changes in any Guide will be printed in the 'Sage.' Believing a picture is worth a thousand words each Guide will have a Topo map showing at least one route to the peak. Our current thought is a price of about $20.00 per set, and not to be sold by peak. In order to raise money to print this loose leaf book we will probably sell pre-publication reservations at $15.00.
Thanks to Karen Leonard our meeting night problem has been solved.
Beginning with the FIRST Wednesday in October our meetings will be at the Calif. Fed S&L building, Pico & Overland, in West L. A.
Our only real problem is the need for more trip leaders. I have heard climbers say; "Gee, not very many trips in this schedule!" If every one of our over 200 section members would lead just one trip per year, we would have outing coming out of our ears, and other places too! Most of our hikes (83) are rated "0" or "I" so I'm sure many members could easily take the 'Leadership Training Course' and lead many much needed outings. My questions to you, the DPS membership is this; "WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET MORE LEADERS?"
