CERRO DE LA ENCANTADA

For those who might want to try the route we used, I offer the following:

Turn off of Mex Fwy 1 to the Observatory, Meling Ranch, Vallecitos
--------------? miles south of town of Colonet.

Distance from Turn-off to the Nacional Parque Gate is 50.4 miles.
Distance from Parque Gate to right turn on dirt road at Vallecitos--
-------------- 10.2 miles.
Distance from dirt road turnoff to sandy wash (park cars)---2.4 miles.
(this is an open, park-like area, with 1arge pines and firs and a good campsite)
Hiking distance from "Cars to Las Unitas" campsite with water--5 miles.
(It is about a 3 hour hike along the wash, crossing several drainage's on a ducked trail, not always easily followed).
Hiking distance from Las Unitas campsite to Blue Bottle - 1-1/2 miles.
Hiking time from Blue Bottle down Gorin's Gully to Campo Noche - 4 hours.

The water at Las Unitas never fails. Cattle run on the plateau during summer and purification is necessary.

John Robinson's book "Climbing and Camping in Baja" is highly recommended reading prior to any trip to the high plateau of the Sierra San Pedro Martir. It has history, maps and route descriptions.
