CONSIDERATIONS
FOR LISTING PEAKS Selection of a peak for the DPS List should be based on many considerations, and not just on the climbing qualities as it seems to be done at present. The purpose of DPS is to explore and stimulate interest in climbing desert mountain ranges. This phrase has a much broader meaning, in my mind, than elevation gain. I submit that the phrase includes: 1. Uniqueness (geology, flora, fauna, etc) 2. Scenic value 3. New area 4. Historical value 5. Potential interest to climbers/members 6. Climbing qualities I will also add that consideration of difficulty, distance, proximity of another peak is not important. No one is forced to climb. |
