To: Editor, Desert Sage Dec. 26, 1983

On Saturday, Dec. 17th a group I was in attempted to climb Pinacate Peak via the standard route. However to our dismay we discovered that the road to the trailhead had been the victim of October flooding. At the first wash crossing we discovered that it is no longer passable to passenger cars (deep sand), though fourwheel drives and trucks should have no problems. Also at this point the road to Elegante Crater ceases to exist for approximately 1/2 mile. It must have been a big flood.

Fortunately the three of us were able to do a nice backpack on Mt. Ajo and some really fine birding and sunsets.
