DPS-MEMBERSHIP MEETING
DWP - March 4, 1981

After welcoming the attendance, Chairlady Reber called for reading of the minutes. The Secretary read the minutes, and down the line it was very noticed, first a murmur then a crescendo of uuuhs and aaahs then discreet applause. What was causing the disruption? None other than our long-gone Doug Mantle came in! The Secretary then finished the minutes and the reading of the Treasury report.

Program report: Fran gave still another pitch for enlisting someone from the Section to give a slide program at the October meeting. He also said that Barbara Lilley will give the April meeting program and the subject will be the Idaho Mountains.

Council report; Ron Bartell said that about the only thing of real interest is that if any group or section needs money, the EXCOM has funds available. Also, at the meeting there was some controversy regarding announcements of private trips, perhaps because of the question of insurance liability. But then, privately led trips that are not sanctioned by Headquarters have always been announced and it is the consensus of opinion that there is no real harm in continuing to do so. Thanks to the appearance of Doug Mantle, who is so well versed in legal procedure, on behalf of the section he will submit a resolution to present to the Council to let the world know just where DPS stands -- which is of course, to announce privately led trips, anywhere, anytime. Motion was made and seconded and unanimously adopted to have such resolution drawn and submitted forthwith.

Vice Chairman's report: None, but Doug said that a letter had gone around to would-be leaders and he would appreciate any input on trips that might be led, for instance good ideas would be a trip to the Inyos or Whites which make nice summer climbs. Since Chairlady Reber has had plenty of practice in calling for past and future trips, she called for the Feb. 14-15 Anza Borrego; Gordon McLeod and Barbara Lilley praised the area as being a great one to explore; Dave Hammond gave the report on Sombrero and Jucumba. Upcoming are: Picacho & Mopah; Granite and Spectre; Moapa and Virgin.

Nominating Committee report: Mike Manchester, who also honored us with his presence, after a preamble, announced the nominations for the 1981-1982 committee. They are: Vi Grasso, Ron Bartell, Mary Sue Miller, Art Blauvelt and Steve Powell. Upon motion made and seconded, the nominations were closed with no changes, deletions, or additions to the peaks list or by-laws.

Under new business, Chairlady said that the banquet arrangements are pretty well finalized, announced the menu and the ticket price. Also, management committee members have tickets available, $12 each. Barbara then distributed a handout regarding the preservation of Stony Point for which Tom Jetter is campaigning. Those concerned should write their respective councilman by the end of March.
