The Desert Sage
CHAIRMAN'S CORNER BARBARA REBER

The DPS season is moving along rapidly. March 31 is the last chance to renew at the pre-inflation rate of $3.00. It's also time to vote for next years Management Committee. The ballots, when received, should either be mailed before April 1 or brought to the April meeting. Don't miss the social event of the year, buy your tickets for the DPS 1981 Banquet on May 6. You will be treated to a Happy Hour, a good dinner, excellent companionship and a fabulous program by the well-known California writer, Remi Nadeau. His subject will be California Ghost Towns.
In this issue of the Sage, Walt Wheelock, the DPS's favorite publisher and Baja Buff presents an excellent article on the high point of Sonora. He was also kind enough to present me with a copy of "Sonora Road Log", a review which is also in the Sage. For all you adventuresome souls the back roads of Baja present quite a challenge. It would be nice to leave tomorrow.
None of the Sierra Club sections would survive without our behind the scene workers. For the past, at least, 5 years John Backus and his USC computer have furnished the Desert Sage with mailing labels. This has. saved the editor many hours and we greatly appreciate John's help. John's contributions to all the climbing sections has been vast and varied.
For this system we had to do some bootleg keypunching. Access to this is no longer available. Another DPS stalwart, Ron Bartell has volunteered to totally computerize the DPS. With this computer we can update our membership lists and Sage mailing labels bimonthly. This is a great assist to the section especially the Sec-Treas. We really thank Ron for his help, time and dedication.
