With the advent of the October meeting, another exciting and adventuresome Desert Peaks season officially begins.
I would like to thank the section and last years Management Committee for presenting me with a very lovely hand-wrought, Navajo silver necklace. It certainly augments my long time collection of American Indian jewelry. This year I will be assisted on the management Committee by Doug Mantle, Vice Chairman; Vi Grasso, Sec-Treas; Fran Smith, Program Chairman; and Ron Bartell, Council Representative. Our mountaineering committee will consist of Doug Mantle, Dick Akawie and Bill Bradley.
The most notable difference in the Desert Peaks Section this early in the season will be a change in meeting places. We will join the ranks of the Sierra Club and migrate to The Department of Water and Power, Room 1273 for the November and December meetings and probably forever. The LA Department of Education has decided to charge $10.00/hour for the use of the Youth Services Center. The Desert Peaks limited budget can not handle this type of expense.
I hope to see many of you at the November meeting at DWP for an excellent program by one of our long time members, Louise Werner.
