The Desert Sage
Chairman's Corner Duane McRuer

When this management committee took office we set a number of objectives for the year. The most important were to have a full schedule of climbs and to pay greater attention to conservation issues relating to the desert. Conservation has been especially important this year because of the current discussion about potential wilderness on BLM land. We've spent the better part of two meetings on this and should continue to be active as a section.

Two other major goals were to prepare and publish an upgraded peaks list and a list of the members. A nifty new list is part of this issue of the Sage - revised and refined by the fine hand of Vice Chairman and Mountaineering Committee Chairman Bill T. Russell. It Includes the just added Moapa. And Vi Grasso, our sterling Secretary-Treasurer, has put together a membership list. The election is over and we have only the banquet to go. All in all, a pretty good year, for which I'd like to thank the trip leaders, Bill, Vi, and the other members of the management committee - Mike Manchester, who always got the hail and sometimes a program as well; and Barbara Reber, who represented us in the Chapter Council (as its Secretary, yet!) and kept the Sage going -and all the Section members. It's been a pleasure for me to work with all of them.

Good luck to the next crew-Barbara and all.

Duane
