The Desert Sage
Chairman's Corner Duane McRuer

After a banquet characterized by an excellent speaker, a good meal, and a pleasant social hour - - albeit interrupted by individual moments of stark terror evoked by such questions as 'Where's the projector Jon?" and "Migod where's the past chairman pin?" -- the new DPS management crew has been launched. (See VI Grasso's Banquet minutes elsewhere in this issue). After a great year as Chairman, Ron Jones can now stay in Trona (please don't Ron) if he wants to on the first Wednesdays and plan the DPS's 3rd Annual Desert Deer Festival secure in the knowledge that last year the DPS had an outstanding season in all respects. And the rest of the 1978 - 79 management committee can share in the satisfaction that all went well during their term.

The new committee has met twice, in this our off season, to discuss and finalize plans. An active winter schedule has been arranged, both in programs and climbs, and the section's business affairs are off to a good start. In this latter connection its not too early to remind the membership that any regular member can submit recommendations for additions or deletions to the Peak List to the Mountaineering Committee (Bill T. Russell, Chairman), by November 30. Pertinent details about the peak, and. reasons for its addition or deletion, should be included. Potential additions must have been scheduled and climbed as a DPS sponsored activity before being placed on the ballot.
