SOUTH GUARDIAN ANGEL, An Emblem Peak? -- NEGATIVE ARGUMENT.

I ask DPS members to vote NO to the idea of promoting S.G.A. to emblem status, for the following reasons.
But first, it seems necessary to reflect on the historic back-ground re S.G.A. S.G.A. was "discovered" and promoted by several prominent DPS members, several years ago. It was extolled for its beauty and challenges. The early assaults seemed to have been difficult, and maybe chancy for reasons of the unknown, and the serious obstructions in the deep inner canyon.
Typically, four fixed ropes were anchored, but once these were in place, the average hiker could proceed without difficulty.
Previously, discussions towards making S.G.A. an emblem peak were vetoed because it was believed that the average DPS hikers were not up to coping with the obstructions of the inner canyon, and that emblem status would lure such people to undue risks.
I submit that the Inner Canyon, competently led, presents no undue difficulty, particularly now, that eye-bolt anchors have been installed at the most difficult place. So the earlier argument seems no longer valid.
But, overshadowing all of this, S.G.A. emblem considerations should not be made without addressing the status of North Guardian Angel (N.G.A.) at the same time. As fine a peak as S.G.A. is, I submit that N.G.A. is even finer. True, S.G.A. may be more charming, beautiful and have a finer view, But N.G.A. is likewise beautiful, more varied in composition, but most important, it offers a better climbing challenge. N.G.A. is rated chase 4 (I believe), bit is less technical than Weavers Needle or Baboquivari. Our group of 4 carried ropes, but had no ocassion to use them (other than in the inner canyon).
So, before taking action on S.G.A. I would prefer to see N.G.A. added to the list as an emblem, or failing that, at least added to the list. I believe that making an emblem out of S.G.A. would demote and nullify status on N.G.A. I would be happy to lead N.G.A. to advance its cause.
