Now is the time for all good DPS'ers to come to the aid of our Section. It's only January but we are in the middle of the DPS climbing season and we'll soon be electing officers for next season. The Nominating Committee this year consists of Paul Nelson, Chairman, Vi Grasso, and Dick Akawie. They will nominate members to run for the next Management Committee. Ballots will be mailed in March and the five persons receiving the highest number of votes will comprise next year's Management Committee. If you would like to suggest a candidate for next year's Management Committee (yourself included) now is the time to tell a member of the Management Committee.
Plans are shaping up this year for the greatest DPS banquet ever. John and Ruth Mendenhall, outstanding climbers in the Sierra Club for many years, will present the slide show. Circle the date on your calendar--Monday, May 2--for a memorable evening of fun and good comradeship.
Soon it will be musical chairs time again. We will move our monthly meetings to the Youth Services Center, 3317 Bellevue Ave. For six years we held our meetings at the YSC. That was until last October when we learned that the YSC was not available on our regular meeting night. Since October we have been meeting at the Department of Water and Power Building. However, the Management Committee has yielded to enormous pressure from old-timers who could got get used to the air conditioning, plush facilities, and guarded free parking at DWP and we will meet at YSC again starting in March. The change will appear in the next Schedule. Our February meeting will be the last at DWP. Hope to see you there.
