In Arizona. . . excursions led by The Dons |

Not all the outings led
by The Dons of Phoenix involve clambering up a rocky slope like that pictured
above. Some, in fact, don't even require you to get out of your car while
absorbing Arizona scenery, history, and folklore. But all are en.. lightening
and entertaining the weekend trips offered from February 3 to March 3 are good
examples. The Dons are 50 Phoenix business and professional men whose objective is to acquaint residents and visitors alike with the rich cultural and historical back- |
ground of Arizona and with its fascinating geography and natural history. Their principal means of doing this is to serve as sponsors, organizers, and guides for group trips all over the state. The trips involve minimum expense; on all but overnight trips you can take your own car and provide your own food, if you wish. Simply join the travelcade and enjoy the Dons' guide service at no charge. Buses are available at reasonable fares for those who don't drive (overnight trips are bus-only excursions). | The hikers
shown above are on the annual Superstition Mountain-Lost Dutchman Mine Trek,
which will take Place on the first Sunday in March. This is one of the most
popular of the Dons' activities, and right now is none too early to make
reservations. On the trek you can join the 9-mile hike to Weaver's Needle lookout, or stay at base camp and enjoy demonstrations of Indian arts and crafts, & program of Southwestern music and dancing, and exhibits from the Old West. In the evening |
