MAP PROGRESS

Celebrate! The entire California section of the Desert Trail has been marked (and remarked ) on topos..... 46 of them to be exact. The way it stands right now we think it is a hikeable trail. However, we can't have been everywhere and so until every inch has been hiked, maps can't be given out. So we could sure use some help. If you would like to explore any area and send back some in depth reports, we will send you a copy or copies of the places you feel you could be of assistance. Cost to you is $1.00, which includes map reproduction (2 maps) and mailing expense. In return we would like your comments on (1) the terrain--, rocky, mushy, etc. (2) the plants in the area-- cactus (type), other kinds, etc. (3) wildlife seen, (4) time of hike and weather, (5) where you started, camped and ended up, (6) your recommendation, if other than the proposed mapped trail. Once the report has been completed and the maps returned (marked, we hope), you will receive a 75 cent refund.
Think about it..... what a great way to spend a week--end-- and help build our trail.

EMBLEM HOLDERS TAKE NOTICE

As the only existent list of DPS emblem holders is rather Mickey Mouse, I saw fit to compile what I hope is a complete list. The list is taken from a hodge-podge of newsletters and emblem letters. Some of our illustrious Sec... Treas. did not save emblem letters, which makes the task most difficult. I would appreciate information on any missing names and also on missing dates of when you received an emblem. If we could receive this information by May 10, 1976, I will publish a corrected list in the next issue of the Desert Sage.

Barbara Reber, Sec-Treas
