CHAIRMAN'S CORNER -- Les Stockton

1. This is the Swan Song of your current Management Committee, and the April meeting and May Banquet is the end of the official Desert Peaks season. However, the climbing season doesn't stop. Our 12,000-footers and above just get more activity during these periods of low level inactivity.

2. Mark your Banquet date on your calendar. See particulars elsewhere in this issue.

3. Vote on our proposed changes (pro or con) before the deadlines. I'm particularly interested in the approval of a five-man committee and Charleston as an emblem peak, but I won't push too hard in any direction or your editor will leave out the entire chairman's lament.

4. My lament is the termination of the meetings of the staff. (I would advise the new chairman to have two six-packs available for the Newsletter editor for any meeting longer than three hours!) Paul Lipsohn was in charge of scheduling and Chairman of the Mountaineering Committee. Jerry Haven stepped in on short notice and took over Secretary-Treasurer duties when Ed Treacy became a southerner. Howard Stephens provided us with outstanding, varied entertainment. John Vitz kept the electorate currently knowledgeable with his unbiased (?) presentations in his newsletters. Ben Romero pinpointed our critical conservation areas. My thanks to all for outstanding performances.

5. See you at the May Banquet! (And on Charleston, Wheeler, DuBois, etc.)

SCHEDULED TRIPS

WHITE MOUNTAIN -- Al Campbell

Snow cancelled the scheduled trip for October 23, 1971, so Dennis Lantz went through the planning all over again so that we could drive to the Barcroft Lab and visit the facilities prior to the climb. Unfortunately, Dennis had a mishap and he wasn't "Go" this year. He says he'll lead again in 1973. The third time should be a charm.
