CHAIRMAN'S CORNER -- Les Stockton

Dear John (& members),

1. How many New Year's resolutions are still intact? I made one, so included are some new and old write-ups.

2. It's time to consider new nominees for the election to your DPS Management Committee. Jon Inskeep has consented to be the Nomination Chairman. If you wish to participate at this level next year let Jon know and he will place your name before the electorate.

3. Our peaks list is always in a state of flux, depending on the exploratory efforts of your most active editor. He has been accused of stacking the list with the peaks of his choice. John, you have added some beauties and I know you don't approve of "crud heaps." We are getting some far-out peaks that take long, long weekends to get there. On Memorial Day, Paul Lipsohn is looking over a shorter route to Big Picacho. Don't ask to go along, he'll ask you!! So you will be voting on additions and/or deletions also. I am hoping we can add Charleston (near Las Vegas) to the emblem list, thus making five out of seven the possibility. We cannot climb Montgomery in the winter months, and Picacho only twice a year. South Guardian Angel would be a nice addition but October is probably the only certain time to climb it, and Baboquivari should be considered at least Class 4, thus disqualifying it for many. Anyway, contact Paul Lipsohn, John Vitz or Bill Banks for input (or output?). You'll be the final judge.

4. Our by-laws need one necessary change. Right now we will be electing four members instead of five. It takes an odd number to come to a voting conclusion, otherwise many decisions would end in a tie. So we do need an odd member (no reflection on his or her habits or character). I am hoping you will approve this change.

5. The Banquet is scheduled for the 2nd Thursday in May (10th). We will receive our usual excellent meal of soup, salad, spaghetti, prime rib and dessert for the economical price of $4.75 at Rudi's Italian Inn, 3773 Crenshaw Blvd. Social, 6:30 pm; food, 7:30 pm. The DPS doesn't "Big Deal" their banquets, just close friends enjoying each other and new friends enjoying our friends Friendly, eh John?

Haven and Vitz (Ed. - First I've heard about this) are providing the outstanding program. I have seen this presentation and it is one of the most beautiful canyonland areas we have. Their shows always make you want to go there as soon as you can (Ed. - during the show?). Howard Stephens is the Banquet Chairman, ticket seller, coordinator. But contact any of your officers if more convenient.

6. The next issue will contain ballots for your consideration -- participate.
