CHAIRMAN'S CORNER - LES STOCKTON

1. After spending one half of the time in the rain for a two week Sierra vacation, I'll be glad to get back to our dependably dry (?) desert. We will give the Sierra one more chance for a dry weekend, but I hope we don't "incur an encore of the downpour" (a Vitz quote).

2. Our most pressing club projects are the California coastline initiative and our desert study group. Although the coast is far from our madding crowd, the project is necessary and immediate. If you can provide time and/or money, your generosity will be appreciated. Bill Holden is doing an admirable job with the desert group and we should be actively engaged in something that is this close to our hearts. Contact Bill - he needs us.

3. Upgrading the difficulty of the emblem did not receive the voting approval of the membership. Because our season is relatively short, I believe this is valid. We desire more participation in our activities and the leaders should remember the "struggling stragglers" (Vitz again) at the end of the climbing column probably appreciate the success more than the gung hoers in front. The entire desert is a trail and the beauty cannot be appreciated from a distance. Bring your friends on the easier climbs. Let's add a new desert type to our group.

4. Vitz would like to receive write-ups after a climb. (Ed. note: That goes for outlaw trips as well) I hope he doesn't publish the names of the chief offenders. (Ed note: Amazing that our chief and that chief are one in the same) We have a full schedule for you this season. See you in the desert.

MEMBERSHIP

Since I haven't heard from our illustrious Secretary/Treasurer, I don't have much in the way of news here. Pat Donegan has rejoined the section after an absence of a few years. He gave me his two dollars at our neighborhood pub; two dollars which I will give the DPS when they pay me for two issues worth of stamps.
