PINE MOUNTAIH AND SYCAMORE CANYON WILDERNESS AREAS
The proposed Pine Mountain and Sycamore Canyon Wildernesses in Arizona received widespread support at a hearing before the House Public Lands Subcommittee. Eight witnesses from Arizona gave the proposals their complete, support and asked the committee to amend the Forest Service boundary for Sycamore Canyon to include three small additions. The only objection came from a representative of the Arizona Cattle-growers Association, who objected to the Pine Mountain proposal.

ROADHEAD THEFTS
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department has informed us that gangs similar to those that steal skis and clothing at winter sports areas are now stealing equipment from hikers camped for the night at roadheads. The leader of a small party of knapsackers camped on a recent Friday night at Echo Lakes Campground on U.S. 50 phoned to say that when his party awakened the next morning all their knapsack equipment, clothing, food and cameras, in fact everything except the bags they, were sleeping in, had been stolen.
