THE DESERT PEAKS SECTION NEWSLETTER

JULY-AUGUST 1971 NUMBER 107

CHAIRMAN'S PEEPS FROM THE PEAK

The doldrums of desert peaking are upon us. However, even while you read the write-ups of the last of the season's climbs, plans are being made for next season. A good year with John at the helm comes to an end, and a new crew takes over to run the ship for another year. From the Chairman, representing your Management Committee for 1971-1972, the following SEVEN OBJECTIVES are proclaimed as our goals:

1. Revise and add to DPS bylaws to meet Sierra Club standards and DPS needs.
2. Initiate program of scheduled outings, clearly defined, for DPS members needing slower and easier climbs for various reasons.
3. A program to aid in the conservation and preservation of the desert wilderness areas as stated in the purpose of the section.
4. Insure six issues of the NEWSLETTER to subscribers.
5. Uphold the good meetings that are a characteristic of the DPS.
6. Have an active, responsible Management Committee, both individually and collectively.
7. Last and most important to have you, the membership, feel next June that the DPS has provided you with a successful season.

(Editor's note: The title of this column, formerly known as simply "Chairman's Corner", is entirely the idea of our new chairman and all credit for it should be given to him.)

Milda Endzins joined the section before the last NEWSLETTER, but due to some system bug in the electric typewriter, her name was mangle almost beyond recognition. This is the same malfunction that caused the word "due" to appear as "do" in the last sentence. We apologize to Milda.
