Abe Siemens on reservations: …let the leader decide. on fees: ...try on a temporary basis. on peaks list: Peaks list changes should be done by mountaineering committee using some set of standards.
Eric Schumacher on something (or anything?): Forget the idea.
Louise Werner: Many years ago trail fees were charged on every trip. People seemed willing to pay them.
Carol Miller: Paid outings defeat the whole Sierra Club idea.
Jerry Keating: If revenue is necessary, non-members could pay a fee, perhaps for the insurance cost and directly to chapter headquarters.
Brendan Bausback: Fees are ok if it doesn't get out of hand and become a business.
Paul Lipsohn: DPS should hold meetings all year.
Alice Smitherman: Is the Sierra Club going into the "guided tour" business:.. I fear for the future of the outings sections if the proposed change in the purpose of the Sierra Club is enacted.
George Davis: There should be a size limit to vehicles as well.
Doris Golden: The section has become larger and tightening up would seem to me to an obvious solution. With continuous training of mountaineers through the BMTC we can only continue to grow. I favor imposition of fees if needed to defray insurance costs (how about paying leader's transportation costs?). I suggest a reservation assistant, so that the leader won't have to do this too.
Miriam Romero: Not enough thought has been given by the San Fernando Valley Group on this project. They are always (last two years or so) on a money-making gimmick such as selling chances on second rate pictures etc. This (fees) is just a gimmick to raise more money. Club members should be able to enjoy outings without fees. Our dues are HIGH and going up again. Too much money in the club is currently being paid to personnel, office help, office and travel expenses - the membership should be informed as to just how many people are on our payroll - how much travel expenses to each one - salary schedules - etc. We are NEVER told what club money is spent for - it's always a big secret, and/or no one knows as the books aren't balanced yet. The Valley Group is great for this too - we know - we were on the committee for two years, I think every member of the club should be told what our money is being spent for - dollar for dollar - before we adopt another money-making gimmick. No matter how often or how much our dues are raised, more and more money is needed.
Fred Bode: We have a friendly club, let's not become mercenary and sterile. (Amen)
