ANNUAL BANQUET

The DPS is fortunate in having secured Mrs. Elna Bakker to give a slide show and lecture on "The Ecology of the Deserts" at the annual banquet.

Mrs Bakker is a gracious and brilliant lecturer who combines educational features with sparkling humor. A graduate of UCLA, she is an educator, a contributor to national publications, an officer in The Nature Conservancy, and has been affiliated with honor educational organizations, and the Audubon Society, Sierra Club, East African Wildlife Society, and the, Los Angeles Geographical Society. She has produced documentary films, been featured on television, and is an artist known for her water colors. The wife of Gerhard Bakker, a biologist, she has an active interest in ecology and anthropology and her contributions to the cause of conservation earned, her the Swetland Award. She and her husband have travelled and photographed in Africa, Europe, Austraiia, Thailand, China, Japan, Lapland, Mexico, Central America the Caribbearn, and the United States. Currently they are preparing for publication by the University of California Press a volume on the ecology of California.
