14 DPS'ers LOST ON BABOQUIVARI February 12-14, 1983

14 members of DPS who attempted to climb Baboquivari over the February holidays are still missing and, according to Gordon Raincloud, Superintendent of the Papago Indian Reservation at Sells, Arizona, are presumed dead. Chief Raincloud said that he has had 24 Indians searching every square meter of the mountain ever since the lost climbers were reported and that the Indians have not seen any trace of the climbers. Your Desert Rage reporter interviewed several of the Indians who merely mumbled something about "I'Itoy's revenge" and then ran off with large smirks on their faces.

Missing climbers are Karin Boomer, leader, Dale Van Ballsome, assistant leader, Harriet Hangebacke, Jay Sukiyaki, Duane McRoar, John Lust, John Backup, Cuno Ranchhouse, Norm Groan, Ron Jones, Ron Young, Ron Bartell, Ron Hudson, and Ron Reagan.

Karin's husband Harry said that he is not worried about her. He said that she works for an insurance company that provides generous benefits for its employees. Harry said further that if Karen is not found by Christmas he personally will join the search.

(Ed. note: I'Itoy is an Indian god who lives half of the time in a cave on the side of Baboquivari and the other half of the time on Kitt Peak. There have been no authenticated sightings of this god and many people consider him to be a myth. Nevertheless two people using binoculars claim that they have seen a number of day packs and about 600 cans of beer in I'Itoy's cave, lending credence to the Indians' claim. The Indians have persistently refused to let anyone near the cave to verify their story. More in the next issue.)
