Ed Ostrenga was the first Super Leader. In 1962 he hit the chapter like a tornado and for more than a decade there seemed never a week in the Activity Schedules when one or more outings by Ostrenga wasn't present (212 outings in 10 years). He instigated a regular West Los Angeles evening hike and followed that up by starting the evening conditioning hikes at Griffith Park leading hundreds of those events over the years. Although other leaders had occasionally led bus trips Ostrenga was the first to do so on a regular basis starting a revolution in weekend and longer trips that soon spread throughout the chapter.
