serves as the model
for the entire Sierra Club. His LTC involvement remains steadfast as he helps
shape the reinvigorated Snow and Rock Training
and he still conducts practice
and checkoff sessions in these events. He also is a Triple Peaks List Finisher
(Sierra Peaks
Desert Peaks and Hundred Peaks sections). McRuer created and
endowed the Outings Leadership Award
the Chapter's highest outings award
which was later renamed for Chester Versteeg
in 1976. He was also recognized
last year by the national Club with the Oliver Kehrlein Award
the highest
Sierra Club Award for Outings Leadership. He is currently one of the three
members of the Mountaineering Oversight Committee.
