Weldon Heald (1901-1967)
Active in the DPS: 1951-1959
Local Hikes Angeles Chapter Weldon Heald Conservation Award (1962); As Chair of both the national and chapter conservation committees after WWII Heald played a pivotal role in the club's evolving commitment to aggressive conservation. He was also one of the country's first professional conservation writers. Heald originated the Hundred Peaks Game becoming the first of many who have since attained emblems status in the popular mountaineering section. The Angeles Chapter's highest conservation award is named in his honor.
