A small, but elite, group of DPS'ers assembled this stormy weekend in General Patton's old stamping grounds to climb the summit of the jagged Coxcombs. The leaders were glad that only one other car arrived (the Mertons), for they had spent several hours in garages in Beaumont and Indio eradicating Baja California mud from the carburetor and fuel pump filter in their 4 wheel drive International. A meager 7 climbers were on hand to enjoy the beautiful weather, spectacular rocky canyon, vast desert washes, and beautifully varied wild flowers. Spectre is one of our most spectacular and accessible desert peaks.
