MT. CHARLESTON (11,918') BUS TRIP CANCELLED, BUT FOUR MAKE IT BY CAR

Despite the cancelled bus trip (Only 20 signed up, 32 needed), four persons drove to Mt. Charleston and climbed the peak on Saturday, May 20.

We started at the campground by taking the South loop Trail. After escaping whistling bullets from an unseen nearby shooter, we emerged into peaceful surroundings of meadows with flowers and high snow banks under shadowy trees. Mt. Charleston surprises by resembling Sierra type landscape in the middle of the desert.

Return was made via the North Loop Trail of which a part was still under snow. I highly recommend prospective climbers take the full loop and not return via the same trail.
