On New Year' s weekend, January 1st to January 14th, Mitchell's Caverns and the Providence Mts. were featured. About 23 members and guests from San Diego and Los Angeles made this trip, enjoying the beautiful desert scenery, the fascinating stories of John Mitchell, and the lore of the Indian country. The trip was led by Becky McSheehy, assisted by L. Foster and W. Gilliland.

On Tuesday, January 2nd, ten people climbed one of the prominent peaks of the Providence Mt. range - Fountain Peak, 6950 feet. Eric Kent, Roland Kent, Garvar and Mildred Light, Bob Schmelzer, G. Ramstedt, and Bob Haller were in the first contingent. John and Jimmy Delmonte followed later in the afternoon. Considerable snow was encountered in the canyons on the ascent of the peak. Weather was perfect, however, and the view unlimited.
